Trial date could be set next month in Oak Grove murder case

A trial date could be set next month for the two men accused in the 2016 murder of 19-year old De’Andre Palmer in Oak Grove if the case hasn’t been resolved by then.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling told Judge John Atkins Tuesday morning that all evidence has been turned over to Leonardo Miller’s new attorney—Clayton Brown.

Local attorney David Rye represents Deqavion James and says he’ll be speaking with his client Thursday morning at the jail. Rye said last month that he had received a proposed resolution from Boling, but it has not been accepted.

Judge Atkins set the next pre-trial conference for 1 p.m. on September 8 and a trial date will be set if the cases are not resolved.

Arrest warrants for James and Miller allege they fatally shot Palmer in July of 2016. Police say they took cash and other items from Palmer’s pockets before putting his body in a closet. Palmer’s body was later moved from the residence and it was discovered a few days later by an Oak Grove police officer near Ghost Bridge on Carter Road.
