The Christian County Health Department gave an update on COVID-19 locally Tuesday, including that there are 11 patients currently hospitalized.
According to a news release, there were only five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 from Monday to Tuesday, putting the overall total at 597—of that, 186 are considered active and 405 people have recovered from the virus. Broken down into age groups there have been 105 cases to date in the pediatric age group, 370 in the young adult to middle aged grouping, 108 among older adults and 14 in the elderly age group. Christian County has seen six COVID-19 related deaths.
Between the health department and Jennie Stuart Health, 11,830 tests have been performed locally, not counting other health care providers. There are currently 11 COVID-19 positive patients hospitalized in Jennie Stuart Medical Center.
From the day the county’s first case was diagnosed, it took 63 days for the county to reach its first 100 cases. It then took 36 days for the county to reach its next 100 cases, and only 17 days to reach its next 100 cases. As time progressed, there was a 100 case increase in a matter of 7 days.
Officials say that although the data looks bleak, the rate of growth across the state has decreased since the mandatory mask order, going from a 52 percent growth in case counts two weeks ago to a more recent 3.9 percent growth in case counts in following weeks.
