Kentucky HS Sports will be delayed in starting this fall

The KHSAA Board of Control voted today to have fall sports on a delayed basis this fall. Football will play its first games the week of September 11th, with the KHSAA playoffs beginning November 13-14 and the state finals December 11-12. Practices would begin August 24th with teams having 7 ½ hours for practice that week.
Full practices begin August 31st. Football teams will be limited to 60 dressed players for games to reduce the number of people on the sidelines.

The Board also voted to begin practices for soccer, volleyball and cross country for 7 ½ hours for the week of August 24th, full practices to begin August 31st and games to begin September 7th. Competitive cheer and dance practices will begin August 24th with the recommendation of practices to take place outside where safety equipment and conditions will permit.

Teams will currently stay in their practice modes until August 24th which currently have six hours a week of practice time.

The Board also voted to play games only against Kentucky schools or those that directly border Kentucky during the COVID pandemic. It was noted by Commissioner Julian Tackett that 48 of the 120 Kentucky counties touch other states.

In other action: the Board voted to accept recommendation that all districts that have voted to seed be reduced to a one-game seed plan until further notice, meaning if teams play multiple times, the first game played shall be the seeded game.

The Board also voted to have another meeting for an update on August 20th, before practices begin August 24th.
