The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the University of Tennessee potentially saved itself millions of dollars thanks to the precise wording within its nonconference football game contracts. Two lawyers who examined the game contracts say Tennessee effectively laid out protections in deals with Charlotte, Furman and Troy. The contract language would make it difficult for those opponents to claim a breach of contract if the game is canceled amid the coronavirus pandemic. Another attorney said either Tennessee or its opponent in those three non-conference games should be able to cancel the game without financial penalty. No Southeastern Conference school has cancelled games as of now.
