The Miami Marlins’ home opener against the Baltimore Orioles has been canceled for this evening after multiple players and coaches tested positive for the coronavirus. ESPN said eight more players and two coaches tested positive after the Marlins postponed their trip home to Miami following the conclusion of their series against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday amid coronavirus concerns. Scheduled starting pitcher Jose Urena was scratched about 90 minutes before Sunday’s game and it has been reported he was one of four players Sunday that had tested positive.
Multiple outlets the Philadelphia Phillies home game with the New York Yankees for this evening is also postponed due to COVID concerns. In addition, those who work in the visiting clubhouse for the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park are being quarantined following exposure to the Marlins this weekend.
Meanwhile, ESPN reports MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has the power to suspend/cancel season if a team or teams suffer an outbreak and competitive integrity is compromised.
