The Kentucky Department of Agriculture is putting out a public warning about suspicious packages that contain seeds of an unknown origin.
Ag. Commissioner Ryan Quarles says Kentucky is one of several states where citizens have received strange packages in the mail that contact packets of seeds. Those seeds are possibly coming from China for an unknown reason, and Commissioner Quarles says if you receive one, contact the Department of Agriculture immediately.
He says do not under any circumstances plant those seeds, as they could contain an invasive species and could be harmful to the native environment.
Individuals who have received suspicious packages with seeds should ship them to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service’s division of Plant Protection Quarantine at USDA-APHIS PPQ, P.O. Box 475, Hebron, Kentucky 41048. Individuals are also encouraged to contact the Kentucky Department of Agriculture at 502-573-0282.
