Gov to announce new steps to curb COVID-19 Monday

Governor Andy Beshear will announce additional measures Monday in an effort to curb the escalation in COVID-19 cases in Kentucky.

It comes after Beshear met in Frankfort with Deborah Birx, the response coordinator for the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

Among the recommendations from the White House is to close bars.

She urged Kentuckians to follow the president’s guidance to wear masks when out in public.

While Beshear didn’t give details of his new measures, he noted there were some bars in Lexington where hundreds of people weren’t wearing masks on Saturday night. He says Kentuckians can also expect comments on the reopening of the new school year.

The governor has already issued a mask mandate and tightened social gathering guidelines.

There were 316 new cases and four new deaths reported on Sunday.  A total of 700 Kentuckians have lost their lives to the virus.

South of the state line, Tennessee reported 3,140 new coronavirus cases and three more deaths. Montgomery County gained 89 cases, Robertson County 42 and Stewart County added four.
