Kiwanis Club hears from CCHD about COVID-19 locally

The Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville heard about what actions the Christian County Health Department is doing during the midst of COVID-19 and the state of the pandemic locally at Thursday’s meeting.

Amanda Sweeney with the health department says things have certainly been unusual and hectic on their end since basically the start of the year, when they first began preparation for a possible COVID-19 outbreak here.  She says recent, the amount of tests they preform each day at the Tie Breaker Park testing site has grown significantly, as has the positivity rate.

She says thanks to funding from the state, the department has been able to hire contact tracers, which help them keep track of active cases and direct contacts, so the staff are able to get back to helping the community with other health services.

Sweeney says that although face masks are important, the best way to protect yourself from coronavirus and other illnesses is to make sure you are washing your hands.

Citizens are urged to follow the Christian County Health Department on Facebook for frequent updates about the state of the pandemic in the community and updates on case numbers.  Sweeney says if anyone has any questions they are welcome to send a message or even call the department at 270-887-4160.
