The New York Mets are breathing a sigh of relief. Multiple reports say an MRI on ace right-hander Jacob deGrom came back clean yesterday. The two-time Cy Young winner went for tests after feeling tightness in his back after just one inning in Tuesday’s intrasquad start. DeGrom is considered day-to-day.

An MRI on Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo’s back revealed inflammation that has led to the spasms that have kept him out of recent workouts, though the three-time All-Star told reporters he doesn’t think he’ll need to start the season on the injured list. Rizzo has dealt with back issues previously in his career and had another flare up after taking batting practice on Sunday, but remains hopeful he’ll be available for the Cubs’ July 24 opener against the Milwaukee Brewers.
