Kentucky sees jump in COVID-19 cases

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says COVID-19 continues to escalate in the Commonwealth, as he announced 576 new cases in Tuesday’s update.

He says the American people have always been up to the task of fighting for freedoms and life in the country and this is just another battle—one that everyone must work together to fight for the health and safety of everyone.

That 576 new cases puts the overall total at 20,223, since the pandemic began—of that, 5,389 people have recovered from the illness.  So far, approximately 494,343 people have been tested, which means the positivity rate is now at approximately 3.95 percent in the state. Governor Beshear says the next two weeks will really determine what the mask mandate does for the state and where we stand—but it will only work if people wear them.

At the moment, Kentucky hospital space remains good, but the Governor says that can change quickly if people grow lax in the health guidelines. Six more Kentuckians have died, putting the total at 639 and Governor Beshear is worried that number will grow even more due to the increase in cases.  He announced that the Ky. Safer hotline has been reopened, where people can call to talk concerns and other issues—that number is 1-833-KY-SAFER.

The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting an additional 1,514 cases there, which means the Volunteer state is up to 66,788—there were 18 more deaths, putting that total at 767. Montgomery County is at 850 cases, Robertson County is at 984 and Stewart County is now at 32 cases.
