A local man was charged with DUI and drug trafficking following an investigation Friday night by Hopkinsville police.
An officer was conducting traffic control on McLean Avenue a little after 9:30 p.m. when 27-year old Shawn Ellis of Hopkinsville allegedly disregarded a command to stop and drove around the officer.
He was stopped and admitted to smoking marijuana prior to driving after an odor of the substance was detected coming from the vehicle. An arrest citation says Ellis had a small bag containing multiple pills. Police say additional baggies and a large sum of money were also located.
A child was sitting in the floor of the pickup in the center where there was not a seat.
Ellis was charged with DUI, trafficking in a controlled substance, disregarding officers controlling traffic, possession of marijuana and several other offenses.
