College Sports Roundup

There will be no Ivy League sports this fall. The conference is the first in Division One to rule out sports in the fall semester due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Ivy League has not yet decided on winter or spring sports, or the possibility that this fall’s sports could be moved to the spring of 2021.

Meanwhile, lost revenue to the coronavirus is causing Stanford University to eliminate 11 varsity sports. The cuts will take place at the end of the 2020-21 academic year. Scholarships and coaches contracts will be honored.

The Ohio State University is suspending voluntary workouts for men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, volleyball, field hockey, and football. Officials made the announcement on Wednesday, saying the decision came after an undisclosed number of student-athletes had tested positive for the coronavirus. OSU said the students who tested positive will now self-isolate for 14-days and receive daily check-ups. Voluntary workouts resumed on campus in early June, and it appears the start of fall training camp scheduled to begin July 13th could be pushed back.
