Update: Pembroke firefighter who’s fought COVID-19 now clear of virus

Pembroke firefighter Bob Ceiling, who spent a week on a ventilator during a lengthy stay in Jennie Stuart Medical Center battling COVID-19, is now clear of the virus.

Ceiling says a coronavirus test he took earlier in the week came back negative Thursday.

As previously reported, Ceiling was admitted to Jennie Stuart on June 21, he went on a ventilator one day later and was released from the hospital July 2. He had been doing prescribed exercises and breathing treatments at home, but wasn’t sure he’d shed the virus until Thursday afternoon.

Ceiling says he’s been receiving support from friends, other members of the Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department and former co-workers during his fight with the virus.

He still has a long road to recovery ahead of him, but Ceiling says his goal is to drive a fire truck again.
