CCHD is seeing spike in people wanting COVID-19 testing

COVID-19 numbers have been on the rise in Christian County and so has the amount of people being tested at the site at Tie Breaker Park.

Amanda Sweeney with the Christian County Health Department says they were testing an average of 46 people per day in April, 59 in May and 90 in June and the numbers have been much higher than that the last several days, including 160 on Wednesday.

She says the increase is a combination of concern over spikes across the region and people coming home from vacation.

Using Wednesday’s spike of 19 new cases as an example, Sweeney said some of those cases were connected, but a majority were randomly through the community.

She urged residents to continue with social distancing and hygiene efforts to keep themselves and others healthy.

Testing at Tie Breaker Park is every weekday from 9 until 11 a.m. and Sweeney says the average turnaround time to get results is 48 to 72 hours.
