The annual Christian County Animal Shelter Spayghetti Dinner and Live Auction will not be taking place this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace says the auction depends on the generous donations of area businesses and agencies, and the decision was made to cancel this year’s event to hopefully give those businesses time to recover from impacts caused by closings.
She says that will also hopefully help those who usually come and bid on items or buy a dinner—2020 has been a hard year for many people—but she knows the community will come back and support them again in 2021, just as they always have.
Grace says in the meantime, the Christian County Animal Shelter will continue to care for the animals that come into that facility and help them find homes. The shelter has also had to adapt to changes caused by COVID-19—most adoptions and animal surrenders now happen by appointment, and while more people can now come in, Grace requests that people keep making appointments if possible.
She says it allows them time to make sure things are sanitized, both for the safety of staff and visitors, but also the animals.
