Local library debuts first ‘StoryWalk’

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library has unveiled its first StoryWalk.

It was completed in part by a grant from Kentucky Humanities and in partnership with the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department, according to a news release from the library.

A StoryWalk is an interactive, outdoor reading experience. Participants will read a picture book by walking from page to page, and they’ll discover bonus activities along the way. This temporary fixture will be featured on the greenway trail, between the library and the bridge near West Side Park, until Saturday, August 1. The reading activity covers roughly a quarter of a mile.

Jennifer Annis-Domenech is the Youth Services Librarian and says “A StoryWalk offers a great opportunity to blend wellness and literacy. In addition to reading the books on the signs and walking along the trail, participants will be encouraged to skip, jump, hop, and sing.”

The two books featured in the StoryWalk will be The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by John Scieszka and A is for Another Rabbit by Hannah Batsel.
