A long-time coach who played for and began his coaching career at Western Kentucky before his 30 year plus career as an NFL coach died Sunday. Joe Bugel passed away at the age of 80. Bugel played for the Hilltoppers in the mid 1960’s and worked alongside another coach who later worked in the NFL in Jerry Glanville while both were graduate assistants at WKU. Bugel was best known as the Washington Redskins offensive line coach in the 1980’s when the “Hogs” were originated. He later served as a head coach for the Arizona Cardinals and Oakland Raiders.
