Kentuckians will know the results of last weeks’ primary election by the time they go to bed Tuesday.
Christian County Elections Coordinator Melinda Humphries says the clerk’s office will finish counting the mail-in ballots Tuesday morning and release the totals by 12.
About 5,700 absentee ballots were received by mail in Christian County, 2,000 people voted June 23 at the Bruce Convention Center and 974 voted early at the clerk’s office in the couple weeks before the primary.
Any mail-in ballot postmarked on or before June 23 will be counted and Humphries says only a few came in after last Tuesday.
Humphries says allowing anyone to vote absentee by mail or at the courthouse and having the in-person voting at the Bruce Convention Center gave access to everyone and she believes the primary was a success locally.
All 120 Kentucky counties will have their own procedures for releasing the numbers, but the final tallies should be available by the end of the night Tuesday.
The statewide race between Charles Booker and Amy McGrath for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate has garnered the most attention, but there are also races in our area for Hopkinsville City Council, the Republican nomination for Todd County Clerk and to decide who will face off in November for the 1st District seat on the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
