Unemployment dropped in all nine Pennyrile counties from April to May as more of the economy reopened, but numbers are still markedly higher than a year ago.
Christian County’s May jobless rate was 12.2 percent, down from 17.9 percent in April—but over double the 5.6 percent from May of 2019. It equated to 3,247 people who were out of work in May.
Todd County’s unemployment rate fell from 11.7 percent in April to 7.4 percent in May, good enough for seventh-lowest in the state. That number was exactly double the 3.7 percent from May of last year.
The jobless rate for Trigg County in May was an even 10 percent, down from 17.1 percent in April and up from 4.3 percent one year ago.
Lyon County had the fourth-lowest unemployment rate in the state at 6.7 percent.
The state average was 10.9 percent and the national number in May was 13 percent.
