Christian Fiscal Court approves final reading of budget

Christian Fiscal Court approved final reading of a budget for the upcoming fiscal year Tuesday morning and the next time they meet, magistrates will be back in the upstairs of the courthouse downtown.

Fiscal Court gave unanimous approval to the $29.1 million spending plan. It doesn’t anticipate any tax increases and it does include a 2.3 percent cost of living adjustment for county employees.

Judge-Executive Steve Tribble reminded officials that the governor’s pandemic guidance should allow fiscal court to be back in the courthouse when they meet July 14 at 8:30 a.m.

Magistrates renewed the authority for Christian County Attorney John Soyars to collect fees when prosecuting criminal cases, which are essential to fund his office.

Christian County Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace says 120 cats and dogs went out of that building and to their forever home last month.

Fiscal Court renewed contracts with Todd and Trigg counties to continue providing animal shelter services for them at a cost of $8,500 annually.
