Though thunderstorms postponed the Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, it was still an eventful day at the Alabama track. NASCAR said a noose was found in the garage stall of Bubba Wallace, the circuit’s lone full-time black driver who was instrumental in the sport instituting a ban on the Confederate flag at all races.
The controversial Civil War symbol was still present, however, as a plane flew over the speedway prior to the race with a Confederate banner attached. The flag was also spotted on streets leading to the track. As for the Geico 500, it was rescheduled for today with a 2 p.m. Central start time.
