Ky. Governor announces 90 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says this time next week the majority of the economy will be reopened in some capacity, and he announced 90 new cases.

The Governor was optimistic during Monday’s update, saying the number of cases has been lower than what was being reported the week before, and that comes at a time when more and more is reopening and testing is increased.  He says they intend to outline their plan on reopening schools for the fall during Wednesday’s update.

He corrected the number of cases reported on Sunday from 117 to 120, and announced 90 new cases on Monday, putting the overall total at 13,839, with 352,215 individuals having been tested for the virus.  He says that’s the lowest reported number of cases for a Monday in a while and inn more good news, he reported no new deaths, leaving that total at 526.

Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says Kentucky is on track to begin Phase 3 of reopening in July safely, but people need to keep doing those health guidelines that have been so beneficial.

Governor Beshear gave an update on unemployment, saying roughly 90 percent of claims from March, April and May have been addressed—he says the antiquated system was not designed to help people get unemployment quickly and now they’re facing the struggle they have now. He says he intends to restructure the unemployment officer into the Labor Cabinet, bring on an outside contractor and continuing offering in-person services across the state later in the week.

Tennessee saw an increase of 451 cases of COVID-19, putting their total at 35,553 and five more deaths, putting that at 531.  Montgomery County is at 385 cases, Robertson County has 708 and Stewart County remains at 17 cases.
