NBA players opting not to participate in the season restart in Orlando are to notify their teams by a week from today, according to a league memo obtained by The Athletic. The memo stated every player has the right to choose not to return. The league has approved a plan to resume play with 22 teams on July 30th without fans on Disney properties.

Several players have balked at returning, claiming it would distract from protests against racial injustice and police brutality. The New York Daily News reports All-Star guard Kyrie Irving said the Brooklyn Nets should skip the restart and proposes players start their own league.
