Christian Fiscal Court heard updates on COVID-19 and the gradual reopening of the clerk’s office Tuesday morning.
Public Health Director Kayla Bebout told magistrates last week marked the largest spike in new cases locally since early April and many of those patients were not exhibiting symptoms.
She expects additional spikes going forward as more businesses and offices reopen to the public.
Christian County Clerk Mike Kem announced his office will open to the public by appointment only next week and the phone number to call to schedule an appointment is 270-887-4105.
The clerk’s office needs a janitor to meet sanitation guidelines to open the doors to the public at large and they’re also waiting on ‘sneeze guards’ to help separate employees from clients. Kem says when they are able to reopen their doors, they’ll likely only allow eight people to come inside the courthouse at a time.
Kem again urged people to log on to govoteky.com to request a mail-in absentee ballot or to call 270-887-4107 to schedule an appointment to vote absentee in person at the courthouse.
Magistrates approved a resolution accepting $2.4 million in CARES money to address issues related to the pandemic.
Judge-Executive Steve Tribble expects final reading of the county budget to be heard and voted on at the June 23 meeting.
