Basketball great Unseld passes away today

Kentucky high school and NBA legend Wes Unseld passed away this morning at age 74 after a lengthy battle of illnesses, most recently pneumonia, according to a statement from his family. He played collegiately at the University of Louisville in the mid 1960’s after leading Seneca High School to state championships in 1963 and 1964. Unseld was also Kentucky Mr. Basketball in 1964 and was the NBA’s Rookie of the Year with the Baltimore Bullets in 1968. He also won NBA MVP honors in his rookie season, becoming only one of two players to accomplish the feat. He retired in 1981 and later became Bullets head coach, vice president and general manager.
