All school board races contested, Shamble running for mayor

All three Christian County School Board seats on the November ballot will be contested and Walter Shamble is running again for mayor of Hopkinsville.

Shamble has campaigned as an independent for mayor during the last several mayoral elections and describes himself as a voice for the poor.

District 1 school board incumbent Jeff Moore filed for re-election Tuesday and will face John Bruce. Susan Hayes did not file for re-election in District 2 and that seat will go to the winner between Tiffany Mumford Brame and Nichole Eastman.

Board Chair Linda Keller did not file for re-election to her District 4 seat and that election will be between Mike Walker and Desma Renea Blount.

There were also late filings for Hopkinsville City Council, with Karen Bass running as an independent for the Ward 3 seat against Democrat Alethea West and independent Jarred Mathis.

Independent Don Pemberton filed in Ward 5 and will face incumbent Republican Amy Craig.

James McKnight, Tim Johnson, Janet Edwards, Jean Leavell and Isaiah Spencer added their name to the long list of candidates for Oak Grove City Council. There are now seven candidates running for four spots on the Lafayette City Commission—Stephen Stites, Dickie Reece, Norma Banks, Timothy Hancock, Elsa Bekkala, Sandra Torress and Hayden Hancock. Jared Thatcher is the only candidate on the ballot for mayor of Lafayette.

In Pembroke Jerry Roehr and John Altman will be among six running for four seats on the city commission.
