Congressman Comer speaks with local chamber members on teleconference

Western Kentucky Congressman James Comer met virtually with members of the Christian County Chamber of Commerce Tuesday morning, discussing the reopening of the economy and what the future may hold.

The Republican says he’s frustrated with the pace Governor Andy Beshear is moving at to reopen the economy as he looks south toward Tennessee’s process.

He says any COVID-19 relief legislation he votes for will have to provide liability protection to businesses that are reopening and who fear lawsuits if a person claims to contract the virus in their facilities.

Congressman Comer believes changes to trade will come from the pandemic—especially with personal protective equipment that’s now being manufactured in facilities across the country—but there will also have to be work on pharmaceuticals.

Comer also hopes to see an investment in rural broadband access directly through providers after the pandemic, as working and going to school from home has put a spotlight on the importance for everyone to have access.
