Tuesday is the deadline to file for non-partisan offices and to file for some partisan offices as an independent in Kentucky.
Christian County Elections Coordinator Melinda Humphries says the deadline is for candidates for city council or commission in the smaller towns and school board members in three districts.
It’s important to note that while the Democratic and Republican parties chose Wendell Lynch and J.R. Knight as their nominees for mayor of Hopkinsville, other candidates can still file as independents in the special election to complete the remainder of former mayor Carter Hendricks’ term.
She says download your filing papers online and submit them at the drop box inside the front of the Christian County Courthouse by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
You can also go online to govoteky.com to request an absentee ballot for the June 23 primary election, as the only in-person voting precinct on Election Day will be at the Bruce Convention Center.
Another option is to call the clerk’s office at 270-887-4107 to make an appointment to vote absentee in person at the courthouse between June 8 and 22.
Humphries says the absentee voting process is the same as it’s always been, it’s just that everyone is encouraged to vote by mail during the pandemic to prevent crowds and lines.
