The Christian County Democratic Executive Committee announced Thursday interim Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch will run as the democrat nominee in the mayoral special election.
That election will take place in November and whoever wins will fill the remainder of the unexpired term of former Mayor Carter Hendricks. The Executive Committee reportedly met recently and reviewed the candidates, before selecting Lynch as their choice.
Mayor Lynch says he gladly accepted their nomination, and he decided to run for the office because he believes he can make a difference in Hopkinsville.
He says right now it can be difficult to see outside of the scope of the COVID-19 pandemic, but he intends, if elected, to guide the city into the future past it.
The Christian County Clerk’s Office will be notified of the selection. Lynch was appointed interim mayor when Hendricks stepped down to accept a new position as the Executive Director of the South West Kentucky Economic Development Council.
The Christian County Republican Executive Committee was set to meet sometime this week to discuss potential nominees.
