Hopkinsville YMCA to start reopening on June 1

The YMCA of Hopkinsville is gearing up to reopen for the public, and it will be a phased reopening through the early part of June.

President and CEO Sheryl Ellis appeared on WHOP recently and says they are very eager to start welcoming back their gym members.  She says that due to guidelines set down by the state, they will ask that people try to reserve workout times, either through an app or by calling the YMCA.

The fitness room will be one of the things opening on June 1, along with the track, the weight room, the wellness room, and some exercise machines have been moved to the rear lobby and conference room, to allow for greater social distancing.  Ellis says the pool will open only for lap swimming and water aerobics on June 8.

She says their other services, such as sign language classes, cannot be held at this time but they’re hopeful they will be able to be soon.

On June 15, Rock Steady Boxing and the Tennis Center will reopen.  Services that will remained closed for now are common areas, the chapel, childcare, the gymnasium and the locker rooms.  For more information about the reopening at the YMCA and what health guidelines will be required, call 270-887-5382.
