Kentucky Ag. Commissioner Ryan Quarles announced a partnership Wednesday morning that will greatly expand mobile meal distribution in high need areas to hungry Kentucky students.
The Commissioner made the announcement on social media, saying the donation provides grants to the Kentucky Kids Eat Coalition for mobile meal distribution in Butler, Boyd, Clinton, Fayette, Jefferson, Jessamine, Marshall, McCracken, and Letcher counties. It’s part of a partnership with Farm Credit Mid-America and CoBank and Commissioner Quarles says it is just further proof of how the agriculture community looks out for its fellow citizens.
The plan is to use the funds to renovate buses to distribute meals to Kentucky schoolchildren, and some already have been. Mark Barker with Farm Credit Mid-America says they were glad for the chance to help provide nutritional food to hungry children in the state.
Feeding Kentucky Kids Eat Coordinator Kate McDonald says many children depend on their school system for meals, and this will just help make sure they’re not going hungry.
The Kentucky Hunger Initiative was launched in 2016 by Commissioner Quarles to bring together farmers, charitable organizations, faith groups, and government entities to reduce hunger in Kentucky.
