VFW stops to remember and honor the fallen

Veterans of Foreign War 1913 in Hopkinsville held a modified Memorial Day Service Monday, to honor and remember those men and women who made the supreme sacrifice in the name of freedom.

The service usually takes place in Riverside Cemetery, but due to the pandemic, Post Commander John Brame says some things had to change, and they could more easily socially distance at the post.

He says this isn’t the first time the world has had to tackle a pandemic, and the last time one occurred it was in the midst of a World War.  He says many of America’s heroes never made it home and are buried in other parts of the world.

Commander Brame numbered the Christian County natives who fell in battle in, saying those brave souls will be remembered forever.

A wreath was laid in honor of the fallen as TAPS was played in the quiet air of a bright and sunny Memorial Day.  A line of crosses representing different wars and battlefields lined the yard, and Brame urged people to take a moment and remember the fallen while they celebrate.
