School board approves calendar options for 2020-2021 school year, new job descriptions

The Christian County School Board approved multiple possible calendar options for the start of the next school year and approved creation of several job descriptions, including for a district athletic director.

As instructed by the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic, school systems have had to create multiple opening options in attempt to be prepared to how the virus plays out. The board already approved a start date of August 12 back in September, but Director of Pupil Personnel Melanie Barrett says these new dates provides them with different calendars, should they have to vacate that date.

Option one is the date already approved of August 12, option two has an early start date of August 5, option three has a later start date of August 26 and option four has the latest start date of September 9. The board approved all options, so they are available if the state says they must choose a different one.

Newly appointed Superintendent Chris Bentzel presented a new organizational chart, which depicts the flow of command in the school district. It includes two assistant superintendents, for administrative and operational. The board also approved a job description for a district athletic director, which Bentzel says will allow the individual school athletic directors to focus more on the students.

Another created position is a Teacher Recruiter, which he feels is greatly needed to get exceptional teachers into Christian County.

Bentzel says the positions come at no cost to the district, thanks to the elimination of other positions and the shifting of responsibilities in the administration.
