The Miami Marlins will allow players on their 40-man roster access to their spring training complex to pitch off a mound or hit in batting cages beginning tomorrow, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press. The rest of the complex in Jupiter, Florida, will remain closed, the person said. The optional workouts will be individual, with a staff member present, and those involved will abide by social distancing guidelines.

Golf

Golfweek.com reports the United States Golf Association announced today they are canceling local and final qualifying for the US Open, in which half of the field makes the event. Instead, this year’s event at Winged Foot outside New York City will have an all exempt field. The event-delayed due to the pandemic-will take place September 17-20.

NASCAR

Fox Sports reports 6.32 million viewers watched Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series return to racing at Darlington Speedway. It’s the most-watched, non-Daytona 500 Cup race since March 5, 2017, according to the network.
