Former Mayor Wally Bryan passes away

Hopkinsville has lost a longtime staunch supporter and advocate, as former Hopkinsville Mayor Wally Bryan passed away Thursday morning.

According to Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel, the 73-year old Bryan passed away at his home due to natural causes.  The founder of Challenge House, Bryan served as mayor from 1990 until 1998—aside from that, he has served Hopkinsville in a multitude of ways, from Challenge House director, teacher and advocate.  Speaking of Challenge House and the impact it would have on those in need in the community during a groundbreaking in 2017, the former mayor said the movement as a whole is a miracle.

Christian County Judge Executive Steve Tribble was first elected to office when Bryan was mayor, and he says that Bryan was always looking for ways to help those around him and make the world a better place.

Tribble says Bryan’s absence will be felt throughout Hopkinsville and Christian County.

William Wallace “Wally” Bryan stayed active in the community even after being mayor, including running for the office once more as recently as 2018.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Hughart, Beard and Giles Funeral Home.
