Hopkins County has 26 total COVID-19 deaths, but number of new cases on decline

Hopkins County has had another COVID-19 related death, but it appears the rate of new cases is in a decline.

Twenty-six Hopkins County residents have died from the virus since the pandemic began.

There were two new cases since Friday’s update, making 215 cases, with 128 recoveries and 61 active cases.

Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton says while it’s positive news that the virus isn’t spreading as quickly as it was, it can all change if people become reckless in their behavior.

Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield says following social distancing and hygiene guidelines is even more important as Kentucky reopens the economy gradually over the next few weeks.
