College Football

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is advocating a change in NFL and NCAA rules that would allow college players the opportunity to declare for the NFL draft after one year in college. Harbaugh wrote in an open letter that his proposal would give amateur football players a chance to pursue a professional career “in the time frame that best suits his best interests of his own free will and ability.” Current rules prohibit college football players from entering the draft until after three years, and the agreement will remain in place for the NFL’s next collective bargaining agreement. Harbaugh also stressed that his opinion is his own.

College Basketball

The NCAA is standing by its claim that Kansas committed major recruiting violations, calling five Level I violations that are alleged to have occurred “egregious.” Kansas officials say they agree with some of the allegations that Adidas representatives were acting as boosters helped to arrange payments to prospective recruits, but coach Bill Self maintains he has no knowledge. The NCAA countered with video and text documents tying Self to the payments, calling the evidence overwhelming.

NBA

With some NBA team facilities set to re-open today, a few team officials are worried. According to ESPN, they are concerned about the psychological effects returning to the work place may have amid a global pandemic. The league is expected to have an all-players call today where players can voice their concern over the current climate.

NHL

It’s not clear when the NHL will return but the league is reportedly discussing various playoff formats. According to TSN, the league discussed a 16, 20 and 24-team playoff format in its return-to-play committee call. Teams that may have normally missed the playoffs could now potentially get in under an expanded format.
