The Western Kentucky State Fair, a long-time staple for Christian County and surrounding areas, has been postponed for now due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That decision comes partly due to guidance set down by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and out of a desire to keep would-be attendees safe. Fair Board President Preston Rives says it was not a decision that was easily made and they hope to receive new information soon that may allow them to have the fair later in the year.
The fair had been set for June 21st through the 29th and Rives says with the social distancing requirements needed to prevent the spread of coronavirus, it made sense to postpone for now.
The annual Pennyrile Electric meeting that typically takes place during the fair has been cancelled, with ballots for cooperative members to elect the board of directors to be included in the June issue of Kentucky Living. Brent Gilkey with Pennyrile Electric says they may find ways to show appreciation to their members at smaller events later in the year.
