The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly exercised their fifth-year option on quarterback Patrick Mahomes before the Super Bowl MVP becomes eligible to sign what’s expected to be a record-setting contract extension this offseason. Several reports have already surfaced that Mahomes could be in line to receive a five-year extension for over $200 million in new money, which would make him the highest-paid player in the league with a $40 million-per-year benchmark.
