The New Orleans Saints and quarterback Jameis Winston are reportedly nearing aone-year contract. Winston wasn’t re-signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after they brought in Tom Brady, ending the 2015 top pick’s five-year run with Tampa Bay that included no trips to the playoffs. Winston led the NFL last season with 5,109 passing yards and was second with 33 touchdown passes, but he also topped the league with 30 interceptions. Winston is expected to compete with Taysom Hill to be Drew Brees’ backup.
Meanwhile, the Saints announced Sunday that Hill, a restricted free agent, has signed a new two-year deal through 2021.
The first-ever virtual NFL draft turned out to be the most-watched in the event’s history, as the league announced it averaged a record average of 8.4 million viewers over the three-day selection process. The average audience marked a 35 percent increase over the draft’s previous high of 6.2 million viewers set in 2019, according to the NFL and Nielsen. Each day of the event set a new viewership record as well.
