CCHD gives local COVID-19 update, CCPS preparing possible graduation plans

Christian County gained only one new case of COVID-19 from Thursday to Friday and the Christian County Public School System has given an update on plans for the end of the school year.

There are now 86 total cases, 36 are active and 47 patients have recovered, according to the health department. Christian County has had three coronavirus fatalities.

Beth McCraw with Jennie Stuart Health says they currently have four patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 and there are 10 admitted patients with tests pending. Six patients have been treated for the virus and successfully discharged. Jennie Stuart has tested 1,074 people at all of its locations and the Christian County Health Department has tested 208 people at its drive-thru site at Tie Breaker Park.

With the Governor starting a slow reopening of some medical procedures on Monday, McCraw says the hospital is planning to get back to work with major guidelines in place to hopefully make sure people stay healthy while getting the care they need.

She says they’ll also be looking at getting people who need what are considered ‘urgent elective’ procedures back into the hospital to be taken care of.  McCraw says thanks to good preparation and the generosity of the community, she is pleased with the amount of personal protective equipment still on hand.

Christian County School System Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill says the local high school principals have been working hard to develop a plan for graduation services, and the school board will hear their proposal Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Schools will be closed in in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year and Gemmill says at this time, students are asked to continue doing their Non-Traditional Instruction at home.

Amanda Sweeney notes they are now testing anyone who wants to be tested at the Tiebreaker from 9 until 11 a.m. on weekdays and there will be Saturday hours from 8:30 until 11 beginning May 2.
