The YMCA of Hopkinsville has stayed busy even during their closure caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and they will now host a virtual 5K fundraiser.
The virtual 5K will take the place of the Shamrock Shuffle, which was originally set to take place at the end of March. Joe Wilson with the YMCA says a virtual 5K may sound strange, but participants can get their miles done anywhere—their backyards even—to help maintain social distancing.
He says racers will log their race times or miles and send them in to the YMCA—who will make sure shirts and other items get to the participants.
Registration to take part is back open on the YMCA website and has a $25 fee—all money raised by the event will go to benefit programs offered by the facility, including Rock Steady Boxing.
Wilson says they continue to provide food to families in need and childcare services for essential workers in the community.
