Hopkins County has 40 new COVID-19 cases, four more deaths

Hopkins County has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and it was another bad weekend with four additional fatalities.

Public Health Director Denise Beach says 40 more positive tests came in since Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 156 and there have now been 13 deaths. Thirty-seven of the 40 new patients are associated with a long-term care facility.

She reminded Hopkins County residents of the Kroger testing site this week at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School. It’s for first responders, health care workers and those with coronavirus symptoms.

There has been discussion about when Kentucky can begin to reopen certain aspects of society, but Beach says a dismal weekend in Hopkins County didn’t help those prospects.

Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton believes some have relaxed on adherence to social distancing guidelines and he urged them to follow the guidance.
