Kentucky has single-day high for new COVID-19 cases

Governor Andy Beshear announced the largest single-day number of new COVID-19 cases in Kentucky since the pandemic began during his Sunday afternoon briefing.

The 273 cases brings the state’s total to 2,960 and 1,122 of those patients have recovered.

The governor also announced four new deaths, including a 94-year old female from Hopkins County.

In an attempt to humanize the list of ages and genders announced daily, Governor Beshear read a social media post from a family member of 84-year old Freda Woods of Hopkins County, who recently died from COVID-19 and whose husband is now battling the virus.

He reminded Kentuckians that the four new Kroger sponsored sites—including the one at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School, open Tuesday. First responders, health care workers and individuals with symptoms can register online at krogerhealth.com/covidtesting.

The Christian County Health Department’s free testing site will be open from 9 until 11 each weekday beginning Monday morning at Tie Breaker Park. It’s also limited to the same group of individuals as the Madisonville site.

Asked about plans for the June 23 primary, the governor says it wouldn’t be safe for poll workers and voters to have a traditional election as things stand now.

The governor reminded listeners that it will take continued social distancing and good handwashing practices to get where everyone wants to be to begin reopening Kentucky.

Tennessee has 7,070 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 148 deaths. Stewart County gained one case and is at five, Montgomery County has 119 patients and Robertson County is at 113.
