Finalists announced for Todd County superintendent job

The Todd County School System Superintendent Screening Committee has announced the four finalists to become the district’s next superintendent.

They are Stephen Ely of Davenport, Florida; Benjamin Kemplin of Auburn, Kentucky; Dr. David Martin of Nashville, Tennessee; and Mark Thomas of Taylorville, Kentucky.

Ely is currently the principal of Ridge Community High School in Polk County, Florida and previously served as Academic Operations Manager in Middlesboro, Kentucky.

Kemplin is the director of human resources and operations for the Logan County School System and he has a superintendent certification from Western Kentucky University.

Dr. Martin serves as superintendent at the Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville and previously served as a Department of Defense administrator at Fort Knox and Fort Campbell.

Thomas is currently the director of operations for the Spencer County, Kentucky school system.

Jan Lantz of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators that’s assisting the Todd County board and screening committee says, “The committee was very focused, thorough and purposeful in fulfilling their responsibilities.  As a result, the board received a strong list of finalists to consider.”

There were 11 applicants for the position including eight men and three women; three from out of state; three sitting and former superintendents; four central office staff, and four principals.

Interviews with the finalists will begin next week, according to a news release.
