Medical students helping with Hopkins County long-term care facility outbreak

A team of volunteer medical students and registered nurses is assisting in Hopkins County as a nursing home has a significant outbreak of COVID-19.

Public Health Director Denise Beach says there are 110 confirmed cases in Hopkins County, including 24 residents and nine employees at one long-term care facility.

She says the team of volunteers is much needed and she thanked them for their selflessness.

Beach also thanked eight Hopkins County residents who have recovered from the virus who agreed to donate blood plasma for a study on immunity and how plasma could assist treatment of those who are currently sick.

Fifty-eight of Hopkins County’s patients have recovered and there have been nine fatalities.
