There are now 101 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hopkins County and a local health professional believes the largest surge of infections there could be behind them.
Dr. Wayne Lipson of Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville joined Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton and Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield for their daily briefing Wednesday and says there have likely been far more than 101 actual cases and that makes social distancing even more important.
He notes that the nature of how coronavirus usually spreads necessitates the social distancing and good hand washing practices as the best ways to prevent spread.
Judge Whitfield says 49 of those patients have made full recoveries and there have been eight deaths related to COVID-19.
