A drug overdose investigation early Tuesday morning on Fairview Drive in Hopkinsville led to a man being charged with assaulting a police officer.
Hopkinsville police arrived at the home in the 200 block of Fairview about 1:15 a.m. and found 34-year old Quentin Cherry of Hopkinsville on the bathroom floor trying to slowly get up.
An arrest citation says Cherry charged at EMS personnel there to help him and began struggling and kicking at officers trying to subdue him.
Needles, a baggie containing methamphetamine and a spoon were found in Cherry’s pocket and police say he kicked and struggled while his pockets were searched, causing an officers to be stuck by one of the needles.
Cherry was taken by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where it was determined he needed further treatment at Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville.
He was cited into court for third-degree assault of an officer, possession of meth, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.
