Spread of COVID-19 in Hopkins County may be slowing

Hopkins County has 84 cases of COVID-19 and officials are hopeful that compliance with social distancing orders by the community is slowing the spread of the virus.

There was only one new case from Friday to Saturday, according to Public Health Director Denise Beach, who says there are several tests pending. Even so, local officials are encouraged by smaller numbers of new cases in recent days and Hopkins County Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield says the improvement has been only because more residents are avoiding crowds and doing a better job of social distancing.

Beach says it’s also important to maintain good hand washing practices.

There have been seven COVID-19 deaths in Hopkins County and 39 patients have made a full recovery.
