Even with a bleak financial outlook for the state with shutdowns caused by an ongoing world pandemic, the road plan approved last week by the Kentucky General Assembly includes projects important to the southern Pennyrile area.
Work on upgrades to bring the Pennyrile Parkway up to interstate standards is among the projects in the first biennium of the road plan.
Representative Walker Thomas says it remains to to be seen if there will be enough funding for everything in the plan, but he’s hopeful.
In addition to the parkway work, State Senator Whitney Westerfield says he advocated for the funding included to begin the process of widening US 79 in the area of Novelis.
Representative Myron Dossett got funding in the plan for widening of a section of KY 115 and for new lighting at the KY 115-Interstate 24 interchange. He says he’s also been fielding a lot of calls about problems people are having filing unemployment claims and questions about the federal stimulus package.
The General Assembly is currently in its veto recess and they’ll return to Frankfort later this month to potentially override vetoes issued by Governor Andy Beshear.
